Enzoji Temple

This temple is of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism, located in Yanaizu Town, Kawanuma County, Fukushima Prefecture. It is called Reiganzan. It is one of the three great Kokuzo statues in Japan, and is commonly known as Yanaizu Kokuzo. The principal image of the temple, Fukuman Kokuzo Bosatsu, is said to have been created by Kobo Daishi Kukai. It was founded in 807 (Daido 2) with Tokuichi as its founder. It was originally called Kikkodo and belonged to the Hosso sect, but in 1384 (Genchu ​​1/Shitoku 1), Taikei restored it and converted it to the Rinzai sect. In 1570 (Genki 1), under the patronage of Oda Nobunaga, the brilliant golden pagoda was rebuilt during the reign of Priest Gen Gen, and it came to be commonly known as the "Hikarido" (Light Hall).

In addition to the Okunoin Bentendo Hall, which has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, the temple grounds include the main hall, altar, Nioumon Gate, Mizuden, Kuri, Treasure House, and Bell Tower. The Nanakado Naked Mairi, held on the 7th of January, is famous.

福島県河沼(かわぬま)郡柳津(やないづ)町にある臨済(りんざい)宗妙心寺派の寺。霊巌山(れいがんざん)と号する。日本三大虚空蔵(こくうぞう)の一つで、通称「柳津虚空蔵」といわれる。本尊の福満虚空蔵菩薩(ぼさつ)は弘法(こうぼう)大師空海の作と伝えられる。807年（大同2）徳一を開基として創建された。初めは菊光堂(きっこうどう)といい、法相(ほっそう)宗に属していたが、1384年（元中1・至徳1）大圭(たいけい)が中興して臨済宗に改めた。1570年（元亀1）原源和尚(おしょう)のとき織田信長の保護により金色燦然(さんぜん)とした堂塔を再建、俗に「光堂」とよばれるようになった。

　境内には国の重要文化財指定の奥之院弁天堂のほか、本堂、供所、仁王(におう)門、水殿、庫裏(くり)、宝蔵、鐘楼などがある。正月7日に行われる七日堂裸まいりは有名。
