Japanese: 常行三昧 - じょうぎょうさんまい

〘Noun〙 Buddhist term. One of the four samadhis of Mahāka- zamāna . In the Tendai sect, a period of 90 days is spent in the hall, during which time, apart from eating, drinking, urinating, and begging, one always walks around the statue of Amida Buddha, chanting his name and remembering Amida in one's mind. It is a samadhi. *Kanchiin Hon Sanbo-e (984), Volume 2: "Among the four samadhis is the one called jaugyō samadhi." *Taiheiki (late 14th century), Volume 24: "The sound of nembutsu in jaugyō samadhi.
