Gelibolu Peninsula - Gelibolu Yarimadasi

A peninsula located at the southwestern tip of European Turkey (Thrace) that juts out to the southwest. It is bounded on the northwest by the Gulf of Saros, and on the southeast by the Dardanelles, facing the Asia Minor Peninsula. It is about 85 km long and 6 to 20 km wide. During World War I, from 1915 to 1916, it was the battlefield where the Turkish army fought off and defeated the Allied forces, including those of Britain, which were stalking Istanbul.

ヨーロッパ・トルコ（トラキア）の南西端にあって、南西方向へ突出する半島。北西側はサロス湾で限られ、南東側はダーダネルス海峡を隔てて小アジア半島と向き合う。長さ約85キロメートル、幅6～20キロメートル。第一次世界大戦中の1915～16年には、イスタンブールをうかがうイギリスなどの連合軍をトルコ軍が迎え撃って勝利した戦場となった。
