1516‐50 The de facto founder of the Taungoo dynasty of Burma. Reigned 1531-50. Born into a family of rulers in Taungoo, a town on the Sittaung River that was established by the Burmese who migrated southward following the collapse of the Pagan dynasty and the establishment of the Shan dynasty, around the end of the 13th century. After the death of his father Min Kyin Nyo, he became the lord of Taungoo in 1530, and five years later set out to unify the country with the Burmese. He attacked the Mon Pegu dynasty under Takayut Phi, capturing Pegu in 1538, Martaban (Moutama) in 1541, and Prom in 1542, and in 1543 pacified central Burma.
