A sport in which two pairs of players hit a ball that bounces off a wall, taking turns hitting it back with their left and right hands wearing padded leather gloves. It is similar to pelota and wall handball. The name Fives is said to come from the five fingers, or the hand, or from the fact that players used to play in groups of five, but the exact name is unclear. It is a simple game played in England for a very long time, in which players hit a ball against the wall of a building, but it became popular in the 19th century, mainly at public schools such as Eton, Rugby, and Winchester, and the rules were established in the 20th century.
