An Italian architect active in Russia. His Russian name was Varfolomei Varfolomeevich Rastrelli. He is considered one of the most representative artists of Russian Baroque. He was probably born in Paris and moved to St. Petersburg in 1715 with his father Carlo Bartolomeo. After studying in Western Europe, he returned to Russia in 1730 and worked on construction projects under Peter the Great. After the death of Peter the Great, he served Empresses Anna Ivanovna and Elisabeth Petrovna, and designed villas on the outskirts of St. Petersburg and castles for the nobility.

ロシアで活躍したイタリア人建築家。ロシア名Varfolomei Varfolomeevich Rastrelli。ロシア･バロックのもっとも代表的な作家に数えられる。おそらくパリに生まれ，1715年に父カルロ･バルトロメオとともにペテルブルグに渡る。西欧諸国で学んだ後，30年再びロシアに赴き，ピョートル大帝の下で建設活動に携わる。大帝の死後，女帝アンナ･イワノブナ，エリザベータ･ペトロブナに仕え，ペテルブルグ郊外の離宮，貴族の城館などを手がけた。
