...The games of "hiding zori" and "hiding geta," which were popular in the streets at dusk during the Edo period, are of the same type. The British games hunt-the-slipper and handy-dandy also belong to this type, in which the player must guess in whose hand or hands an object that moves while a song is being sung is being played. The tracking game type is the most complex of these games, originating from the customs of nomadic peoples such as North American Indians, who tracked enemies or animals by their tracks or by marks made by their advance party, and is now used in Boy Scout marching training.
