A group of researchers active mainly in the field of psychopathology at the University of Heidelberg in Germany in the 1910s and 1920s. Its main members were K. Wilmanns (1873-1945), Gruehle, Jaspers, W. Mayer-Gross (1889-1961), and K. Beringer (1893-1949). Jaspers was the spiritual center of the group, and the methods of phenomenology and perceptual psychology that he developed in his work General Psychopathology (1913) pushed research into endogenous mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and manic depression, which had previously been limited to objective descriptions from the outside, toward elucidating the inner experiences of these conditions.
