A species of the family Cyprinidae, subfamily Tanago, or more broadly, a general term for freshwater fish belonging to the subfamily Tanago. Tanago Acheilognathus moriokae (illustration) is endemic to Japan and is found on the Pacific coast of the Kanto and Tohoku regions. It inhabits lakes and marshes in the plains and small rivers connected to them. It is omnivorous. It spawns from April to June, laying eggs in the gill lobes of live bivalves (black oysters, wood mussels, etc.). It has a long and slender body among the tanago species. It has a complete lateral line. It has a long and slender blue-green vertical stripe with a pointed front end on the side of its body and a small dark green spot on the upper end of its gill cover. コイ目コイ科タナゴ亜科の1種,広義にはタナゴ亜科に属する淡水魚の総称。タナゴAcheilognathus moriokae(イラスト)は日本特産種で関東地方と東北地方の太平洋側に分布。平野部の湖沼やこれらに連なる小河川などにすむ。雑食性。産卵期は4~6月で,生きた二枚貝(カラスガイ,ドブガイなど)の鰓葉(さいよう)中に産卵する。タナゴ類中では体の細長いほうに属する。側線は完全。体側に前端がとがった青緑色の細長い縦帯とえらぶたの上端に小さな暗緑色の斑点とがある。
