A military commander during the Nanboku-cho period. Son of Motomune. First named Yukitomo, later Yukimune. Sakon no Shogen and Miyauchi Daifu. A local lord in Date County, Oshu, and head of the Date clan. He sided with the new Kenmu government, and was a member of the Shiki Hyojoshu (councillors' council) of the Mutsu Shogunate, led by Mutsu no Kami Kitabatake Akiie. He campaigned to suppress the Hojo faction that had risen up in the Tsugaru and Nukabe regions. In 1335, he accompanied Akiie on his expedition to Kyoto, and in 1336/1337, he defeated Ashikaga Takauji and fled to Kyushu before returning home. In 1336, he welcomed Prince Yoshiyoshi (Emperor Go-Murakami), Akiie, and others to Mount Ryōzen, and then accompanied Akiie on another expedition westward. In 1337, he set sail from Ise Ominato with Kitabatake Chikafusa and others, heading for Mutsu, but was lost in Hitachi. He played an active role as a member of the Southern Party, based at Isa Castle, the home of the Date clan. He returned to Japan when the castle fell in 1343 and fought as a member of the Nanto side together with Tamura Muneki. Around the time of the fall of Ryozen Castle in 1347, he submitted to the Ashikaga side.

南北朝時代の武将。基宗の子。初名行朝のち行宗。左近将監,宮内大輔。奥州伊達郡の地頭で,伊達氏惣領。建武新政府方につき,陸奥守北畠顕家を中心とする陸奥将軍府の中の式評定衆の一員。津軽,糠部地方に蜂起した北条与党の鎮圧に出陣。建武2(1335)年顕家の遠征に従って上洛し,延元1/建武3(1336)年足利尊氏を九州に敗走させ帰国。延元2年義良親王(後村上天皇),顕家らを霊山に迎え,さらに顕家に従って再度西征。同3年北畠親房らと陸奥を目ざして伊勢大湊を出帆したが,常陸に漂着。伊達氏本貫の地伊佐城によって南党として活躍。興国4/康永2(1343)年落城とともに帰国し,田村宗季と共に南党として転戦。正平2/貞和3(1347)年の霊山落城のころ足利方に服属。
