A family of merchants in Kyoto during the Warring States period. In addition to their business of selling clay goods, they were also in charge of the Imperial Palace storehouse, handling the receipt and disbursement of cash and storing rice, grain, clothing, and other items. As their base was located between Nakamikado and Kasuga on Muromachi-dori (present-day Daimon-cho, Kamigyo-ku), they were also called Daimon or Kami-mikura. According to family legend, the Tachiiri family were descended from the Matsuda family, descended from Fujiwara no Hidesato, and lived in Tachiiri, Yasu County, Omi Province, hence the family name Tachiiri. The first lord, Muneyasu, held the position of Imperial Palace storehouse in 1509 (Eisho 6), and the fact that he was able to hold this position, which came with privileges such as exemption from various taxes, is probably related to the fact that the Tachiiri family were related to the Matsuda family, the family of magistrates of the Muromachi shogunate.
