In Arabic, it is called maqhā, but qahwa, the origin of the word coffee, is also often used to mean coffee shop. Maqhā are generally open to the street and are completely integrated into the lives of ordinary people.

…It was especially popular among mystics as a way to keep them awake during nighttime religious services. It was no longer called bun, but was called qahwa, after the name of a type of alcohol. This Arabic word entered Turkey and became kahve, which eventually spread throughout Europe in the 17th century, giving rise to the globally accepted term coffee or cafe.
