Tapminnow - Tapminnow (English spelling)

The English name for several egg-laying killifish species of the genus Fundulus in the Cyprinodontidae family, freshwater fish native to America. This name once included the ovoviviparous mosquitofish species of the guppy family, but recently American academic societies have come to call the latter group mosquito fish to distinguish them from the former group.

アメリカ原産の淡水魚であるキプリノドン科Cyprinodontidaeフンドウルス属Fundulusの卵生メダカ類数種の英名。この名称は、かつては卵胎生(らんたいせい)のグッピー科に属するカダヤシ類も含めた呼び名であったが、最近アメリカの学会では後者のグループをmosquito fishとよんで前者のグループと区別している。
