Tap dance

Japanese: タップ・ダンス(英語表記)tap dance
Tap dance
A form of dance. It developed in the United States, inspired by the wooden shoe dances of Ireland and Britain and by the dances of African-Americans. It is characterized by the use of metal plates (called taps) on the soles of shoes and the dancing of dancers who make noise by slamming their toes and heels on the floor. It was danced mainly in vaudeville, revues, and musicals, and was very popular in the 1920s and 1930s. The most famous dances were those of the African-Americans Bill Robinson (1878-1949) and Fred Astaire, and Astaire was introduced to Japan in many classic films in which he teamed up with Ginger Rogers (1911-95).
