A city in central Tokyo. It was incorporated as a city in 1967. The city's name comes from its location halfway between Kokubunji and Tachikawa. It is located in the southwestern part of the Musashino Plateau, with the Tama River flowing along its southwestern border. The Chuo Line runs through the city to the north, and the Nambu Line and Chuo Expressway run through the city to the south. It was once a farming village on the outskirts of Tokyo, but after the Great Kanto Earthquake, it was developed into a university town and suburban residential area when Hitotsubashi University moved there. An orderly urban area was formed around Kunitachi Station, and the area around Hitotsubashi University was designated an educational district in 1952. It has an area of 8.15 km2 and a population of 75,510 (2010). →Related topics Hitotsubashi University Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
