In the field of fisheries, the term "translocation" refers to the process of moving fish and shellfish that were not previously present or that are now in scarce supply from other bodies of water to grow and reproduce. There is also another term "release" which has essentially the same meaning but with a different emphasis on the expression, and it is often used interchangeably with "translocation" and "release". Translocation and release have been used for a long time as a positive method of increasing fishery resources, and have contributed greatly to fishery production in shallow coastal waters as well as rivers and lakes. Furthermore, there have been remarkable advances in the artificial production of seedlings and the raising of young fish in recent years, and the number of target species and their scale are increasing.
