Christian Goldbach

1690‐1764
Mathematician born in Königsberg, Prussia (now Kaliningrad, part of the Russian Federation). The son of a prominent politician, he studied mathematics and medicine at the University of Königsberg. At the age of 20, he traveled around Europe and became friends with G.W.F. Leibniz and the Bernoulli family. He was appointed to the Imperial Russian Academy for about two years around 1726, and in January 1728, he moved to Moscow and became a tutor to Peter II and Princess Anna, but returned to the Imperial Russian Academy in 1732.

プロイセンのケーニヒスベルク(現，ロシア連邦領内のカリーニングラード)生れの数学者。有力政治家の子に生まれ，ケーニヒスベルクの大学で数学と医学を学んだ。20歳のころヨーロッパ各地を旅し，G.W.F.ライプニッツやベルヌーイ家の人々と親交を結んだ。1726年ころの約2年間ロシア帝国学士院に地位を得，28年1月にモスクワへ移り，ピョートル2世およびアンナ王女の家庭教師となったが，32年にはロシア帝国学士院に戻った。
