Akiyoshiera - Akiyoshiera

...The eastern part of the area, Akiyoshidai in the narrow sense, became a quasi-national park, and its main part was designated a special natural monument in 1964. The Akiyoshi Limestone is made up of coral reef deposits formed in the Carboniferous to Permian periods of the Paleozoic era, and is rich in fusulina, corals, brachiopods, sea lilies, and other fossils. More than 120 species of fusulina, including one called Akiyoshiera, have been discovered here, and the area is famous as an index fossil of the Paleozoic era. Since the discovery of an inverted strata structure in Akiyoshidai at the end of the Taisho era, the area has been attracting attention as an important academic research site for elucidating the complex crustal movements of the Japanese archipelago.
