Battle of Tatarahama

Japanese: 多々良浜の戦 - たたらはまのたたかい
Battle of Tatarahama
A battle between Ashikaga Takauji, the Kikuchi clan, and the Aso clan took place in Tatarahama, Chikuzen Province (present-day Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City) in 1336. In February of that year, Takauji was defeated by Nitta Yoshisada and Kusunoki Masashige in Kyoto and fled to Kyushu, where he gained many samurai on his side and won a major victory in the Battle of Tatarahama on March 2. He stayed in Dazaifu thereafter, working to gain the support of the various powers in Kyushu and Western Chugoku, and began his journey east to Kyoto in early April.
