The capital of Binh Dinh Province in central Vietnam. It is a port city on the South China Sea coast, about 400 km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City, located on the west bank of the mouth of Quy Nhon Bay, a long and narrow bay that runs from south to north. It opened its port to France in 1874. Large ships were anchored offshore because the bay is shallow, but during the Vietnam War, the United States significantly improved its port functions to use it for military operations. Fishing and salt production are carried out here, and it is also known as a seaside resort. There is a railway line connecting the capital Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and a branch line branching off from the main road, and it is the starting point of roads to the highlands in the west. Population 169,100 (1989). Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
