This is a diary-style record of government orders published immediately after the establishment of the Meiji government, and is the precursor to the Official Gazette. On February 23, 1868, the Meiji government had the diary clerk of the Dajokan's General Bureau edit it, and ordered Murakami Kanbei, a Kyoto-based official book clerk, to publish it. Its contents mainly consisted of Dajokan proclamations, personnel changes, and the battle situation of the Eastern Expedition Army, and it was soon published in Edo by Subaraya Mobei. It ran for about nine years, before ceasing publication with issue 1,177 in January 1877. After that, until the launch of the Official Gazette in July 1883, Fukuchi Gen'ichiro's Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun served as the official newspaper for the Dajokan and played the role of the Dajokan Nisshi.
