〘Noun〙 Buddhist term. ① The title of a job that handles memorial services and affairs. A position in the Tendai and Shinshu sects, in which it was also called Hoji Bugyo. As it is a major event, it will be held in two stages. 〘名〙 仏語。① 法要、事務を処理する職名。天台宗、真宗などで置いた役職で、天台宗では法事奉行ともいった。会奉行。※高野山文書‐応永二九年(1422)三月四日・会行事成範触状案「今日未貝定、於二会堂一、会衆御集会候。一大事可レ為二披露一候。仍状如レ件〈略〉会行事成範」② 転じて、広く法会などの儀式の、その式次第、荘厳(しょうごん)(=仏具)などをつかさどる役。参列の僧俗の進退などの指揮に当たるもので、故実に通じたものがこれに任じられた。※東大寺続要録(1281‐1300頃)「其間会行事妻戸東辺立」
