An algebraist active in 11th-century Baghdad. Dates of birth and death unknown. Also known as al-Karaji. He compiled the Arabic theory of quadratic equations since Khwarizmi, and was the first to systematically discuss the arithmetic and degrees of polynomials. His research from a purely theoretical perspective contributed to the development of Arabic algebra as an independent academic field. In "The Wonders of Arithmetic," he succeeded in processing Diophantus' indeterminate equations within the framework of Arabic algebra. However, his works had no impact on the Latin world.

11世紀バグダードで活躍した代数学者。生没年不詳。カラジーal‐Karajīとも呼ばれた。フワーリズミー以来のアラビア二次方程式論を集大成し，さらに多項式の演算，次数にも初めて体系的に論究した。彼の純学理的方面からの研究は，アラビア代数学を自立した学問として発展させるのに貢献した。《算術の驚異》では，ディオファントスの不定方程式をアラビア代数の枠内で処理することに成功した。だが彼の著作はラテン世界に影響を与えることはなかった。
