Iranian writer. After returning to his native Iran in 1918, he criticized the government as a free thinker and was imprisoned, but after 1948 he adapted to the system and became a senator in 1953. Since publishing Ayyām-e maḥbas (1921) (Days in Prison), he has written short stories such as Fetne (43) and Sāye (46). From the late 1950s, he has published five literary critiques about classical Persian poets, including Naqshī az Ḥāfiẓ (57) and Damībā Khayyām (66), and is also known as a scholar of classical literature.
