A former town in Sakai County in northern Fukui Prefecture. Located in the northern part of the Fukui Plain, it is the center of rice production. Livestock farming, wheat, and soybean cultivation are also thriving. After Maruoka Station on the Hokuriku Main Line was established, an urban area was created in front of the station. In March 2006, it merged with Mikuni Town, Maruoka Town, and Harue Town in Sakai County to become a city, Sakai City. 31.70 km2 . Population: 13,308 (2003). 福井県北部，坂井郡の旧町。福井平野の北部にあり米作の中心地。畜産，麦，大豆の栽培も盛ん。北陸本線丸岡駅設置以後駅前市街地ができた。2006年３月，坂井郡三国町，丸岡町，春江町と合併し市制，坂井市となる。31.70km2。１万3308人（2003）。
