A haiku poet and Chinese poet of the mid-Edo period. His surname was Miyake. His real name was Yoshitaka. His other names included Ritsutei, Kissai, and Sorokyo. He was from Kyoto. He ran a pawnbroker's business, but he also studied Confucianism, Chinese poetry, and Chinese colloquialism, and when requested, lectured on calligraphy to nobles and samurai in the capital. His wife was the granddaughter of Mokusetsu, a disciple of Basho, and he became interested in haiku. He became a disciple of Souoku, and also became acquainted with Taigi and Buson, carving out his own unique haiku world. He died on April 14, 1211. He compiled "Haikai Kosen" and "Haikai Shinsen," and his haiku works were collected in "Koutei Kushu" and "Koutei Gasanshu." He wrote a copy of "Xiaoshan Shishu" (Collection of Poems) in Chinese poetry, and translated Chinese vernacular tales such as "Tsūzoku Suibodai Zenden" and "Tsūzoku Nyōsen-den," as well as the reading book "Tonoibumi."
