An old town in Ogasa District facing the Enshu Nada Sea in southern Shizuoka Prefecture. National Route 150 passes through the town. Sand dunes have developed along the coast, and the town produces melons, strawberries, and tea. The town is home to a nuclear power plant operated by Chubu Electric Power. The Nohitsu Festival at Sakuragaike Pond is famous. In April 2004, the town merged with Omaezaki Town in Haibara District to form Omaezaki City. Area: 53.57 km2 . Population: 24,037 (2003).
