Hamaoka [town] - Hamaoka
An old town in Ogasa District facing the Enshu Nada Sea in southern Shizuoka Prefecture. National Route 150 passes through the town. Sand dunes have developed along the coast, and the town produces melons, strawberries, and tea. The town is home to a nuclear power plant operated by Chubu Electric Power. The Nohitsu Festival at Sakuragaike Pond is famous. In April 2004, the town merged with Omaezaki Town in Haibara District to form Omaezaki City. Area: 53.57 km2 . Population: 24,037 (2003).

静岡県南部，遠州灘に臨む小笠郡の旧町。国道150号線が通じる。海岸には砂丘が発達，メロン，イチゴ，茶を産する。中部電力の原子力発電所が立地。桜ヶ池の納櫃(のうひつ)祭は有名。2004年４月榛原郡御前崎町と合併し，御前崎市となる。53.57km2。２万4037人（2003）。
