Ishiyamaki

Japanese: 石山記 - いしやまき

The title of a sekkyobushi piece. It was written around the Enpo era (1673-81) and is based on the original work by Tenma Hachidayu. It is in the form of joruri with six sections, but has traces of honjimono, which begins with "I inquired deeply about the origins of Renge Shonin." It is the biography of Renge Shonin, who was born to the eleven-headed Kannon of Ishiyama-dera Temple, and emphasizes the miracle of nembutsu based on the concept of oneness between Amida and Kannon. It includes mundane scenes, and the distinctive features of sekkyo are well displayed in the detailed recounting of the monk's childhood experiences of his family suffering from hunger.

説経節の曲名。延宝(1673‐81)ころの作で天満（てんま）八太夫の正本である。六段構成で浄瑠璃形式ではあるが，〈蓮花上人の由来をくはしく尋ね奉るに〉で始まる本地物（ほんじもの）のなごりがある。石山寺の十一面観音の子と生まれた蓮花上人の一代記で，弥陀･観音一体観による念仏の奇瑞（きずい）を強調している。世俗的な場面を盛り込み，とくに上人の幼児期の体験として，飢餓に苦しむ家族の姿を克明に語るところは説経の特色がよくでている。
