Zhuō (English spelling)

Japanese: 涿 - たく（英語表記）Zhuō

A city in central Hebei Province, China. It lies south of the Joma River, and the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway (Beijing-Guangzhou) passes through it. It has long been known as a strategic location for the Yan Kingdom, and during the Han dynasty Zhuo County was established here as the center of Zhuo County. The name of the county was later changed to Fanyang and continued into the Sui dynasty. Incidentally, Zhuo County in the Sui dynasty is the area centered on today's Beijing. From the Tang dynasty, Fanyang became the name of a county, and Zhuozhou was established with this as its center. During the Later Jin dynasty of the Five Dynasties, it was included in the territory of the Liao Kingdom as one of the so-called Sixteen Prefectures of Yanyun, and continued to be part of the territory of the Jin Dynasty until the Yuan dynasty. In the Ming dynasty, the name Fanyang County was abolished and it was called Zhuozhou, and after the Republic of China, it was directly subordinate to the province as Zhuo County, which remains so to this day.

中国の河北省中部の都市。拒馬河の南にあり，京広鉄道(北京～広州)が通過する。古くから燕国の要地として知られ，漢代には涿県をおいて涿郡の中心とした。のち郡名を范陽と改めて隋代に至った。ちなみに隋の涿郡は今日の北京を中心とした地域である。唐代から范陽が県名となり，ここを中心として涿州がおかれた。五代の後晋のとき，いわゆる燕雲十六州の一つとして遼国の領内に入り，引き続き金国の領土となって元代に及んだ。明代になって范陽県の名を廃して涿州といい，中華民国以後は涿県として省に直属し今日に及んでいる。
