Takikawa Incident

In 1933, the Ministry of Education unilaterally suspended Takikawa Yukitatsu, a professor and criminal law scholar at Kyoto Imperial University. This incident is also known as the Kyoto University Incident. Takikawa's lectures at Chuo University and the contents of his book "Criminal Law Reader" were criticized for their dangerous ideas. On April 22nd of the same year, the Minister of Education, Ichiro Hatoyama, ordered the president of Kyoto University to recommend Takikawa's resignation, and finally, on May 26th of the same year, unilaterally suspended Takikawa. In response, all instructors at Kyoto University's Faculty of Law, including Soichi Sasaki, Hiroshi Suekawa, and Yasushi Tsuneto, submitted their resignations on the same day in protest against the violation of the university's autonomy, but the Ministry of Education dismissed six professors, including Takikawa, Sasaki, Hideo Miyamoto, Shigeji Moriguchi, and Suekawa, on July 10th, and only two professors, Tsuneto and Tokuji Tamura, on July 25th. Takikawa's "Criminal Law Reader" was banned on September 5th of the same year.

1933年京都帝国大学教授で刑法学者の滝川幸辰を文部省が一方的に休職処分にした事件。京大事件ともいう。滝川は中央大学での講演やその著『刑法読本』の内容が危険思想であるとの理由で問題とされた。文部大臣鳩山一郎は同年4月 22日京大総長に対し滝川に辞職勧告を行うよう命じ，ついに同年5月 26日一方的に滝川を休職処分に付した。これに対し，同日佐々木惣一，末川博，恒藤恭をはじめとする京大法学部の全教官は，大学の自治を侵害するものとして抗議のため辞表を提出したが，文部省は同7月 10日滝川，佐々木，宮本英雄，森口繁治，末川ら6教授，同 25日恒藤，田村徳治の2教授のみをそれぞれ免官とした。また，滝川の『刑法読本』は同9月5日発禁となった。
