A calendar, or by extension, a yearbook. It is said to have originated from the clog almanac, which was used in Britain and Scandinavian countries until the Middle Ages. It records the movements of celestial bodies on a piece of wood. It has been printed since the incunabula era, and nautical almanacs were widely distributed in the Mediterranean region. The inclusion of astrological predictions (practica) incurred the displeasure of rulers, and they even led to bans on their sale, but this did not stop their popularity. The Almanach de Gotha , which contained genealogies of the royal families and aristocracy of European countries and statistics on the population and military readiness of each country, appeared in 1764 and became popular among upper class society, while Whitaker's Almanack was first published in 1869 and was well received as an information handbook for civil society. 暦．転じて年鑑．英国や北欧諸国で中世まで使用された棒暦（clog almanac）が起源とされる．棒状の角材に天体の運行を記録したものである．インキュナブラ時代から印刷され，地中海方面では航海暦（nautical almanac）が広く供給された．占星術による予言（practica）の付加が支配者の不興を買い，発売禁止処分さえ生じたが，普及を抑えられなかった．ヨーロッパ諸国の王家貴族の系譜や各国人口や軍備の統計を収めたAlmanach de Gothaが1764年に出現して上流社会に流行したが，Whitaker’s Almanackが1869年に創刊されて市民社会の情報便覧として好評を得た．今日ではyearbookと書名上の区別しかない．[参照項目] 年鑑
