There are 6 genera and 10 species and subspecies of fish in the Cobitididae family in Japan. They are broadly divided into the genus Cobitis , which has a spine on the lower edge of the eye, the genus Niwaella , the genus Leptobotia , which has no spine, the genus Misgurnus , the genus Barbatula , and the genus Lefua . The genus B. toni, which belongs to the genus B. toni , is only found in Hokkaido in Japan, and people in Hokkaido simply call it loach, and distinguish it from the common loach by calling it Naichidojo (inland anchovy).
