Volcán de Tacaná (mountain) (English spelling)

Japanese: タカナ[山]（英語表記）Volcán de Tacaná

An active volcano in the Sierra Madre South mountain range in southwestern Mexico. It is located on the border between Mexico and Guatemala, near the Pacific coast. It has an elevation of 4,092m and is located 30km northeast of the Mexican city of Tapachula. It has experienced repeated volcanic activity since recorded history, with major eruptions in 1855 and 1878. These were fissure eruptions that radiated from the summit to the foot of the mountain. Active eruptions continued after that, with a major sulfurous gas eruption in 1950. [Tajima Hisashi]

メキシコ南西部，南シエラ･マドレ山脈中の活火山。メキシコとグアテマラの国境上，太平洋岸近くにある。標高4092m。メキシコの都市タパチュラの北東30kmに位置する。有史以来，活発な火山活動を繰り返していたが，1855年と78年には大噴火を起こした。山頂から山麓へ放射状に走る割れ目噴火であった。その後も活発な噴火を続け，1950年にも硫気の大噴出があった。【田嶋久】
