[Sizing for the paper industry]
The process of adding a water-resistant agent (called a size) to the paper stock during the papermaking process or applying it to the surface of the paper to make it resistant to the penetration of liquids into paper and paperboard. The former is called internal sizing or engine sizing, and the latter is called surface sizing or tub sizing.
[Inner surface sizing]
Washi paper is made by adding paste extracted from the roots of the tororo-aoi plant, which in part serves as the size.

　紙および板紙への液体の浸透に抵抗性を与えるために，耐水性向上剤(サイズsizeまたはサイズ剤という)を抄紙工程の際に原料に加えるか，あるいは紙の表面に塗ること。前者を内面サイジングまたはエンジンサイジング，後者を表面サイジングまたはタブサイジングと呼ぶ。
