Masamichi Takatsu

Masamichi Takatsu
1893-1974 A social activist and politician from the Taisho to Showa eras.
Born on April 20, 1893. While studying at Waseda University, he participated in the socialist movement, and in 1922 he participated in the formation of the Communist Party and defected to the Soviet Union. After returning to Japan, he left the Communist Party and founded the China Proletarian Party in his hometown of Hiroshima. After the war, he participated in the founding of the Socialist Party and served as a member of the Central Executive Committee. In 1946, he was elected member of the House of Representatives (elected five times). He was also Vice-Speaker of the House of Representatives. He passed away on January 9, 1974, at the age of 80.

明治26年4月20日生まれ。早大在学中に社会主義運動に参加,大正11年共産党の結成にくわわり,ソ連に亡命。帰国後共産党を脱党し郷里広島で中国無産党を創立。戦後社会党の創立に参加,中央執行委員をつとめる。昭和21年衆議院議員(当選5回)。衆議院副議長。昭和49年1月9日死去。80歳。
