Kanmon - Kanmon

Also called "Kamon." A written report submitted after examining precedents and historical facts as material for a decision upon receiving orders from the Emperor or the Imperial Court. There were two types of reports: Shoshi Kanmon submitted by the Shoryo-shi under the Ritsuryo system, and Shodo Kanmon submitted by the Myogyo, Myobo, Monjo, Astronomy, Yin and Yang, and Rekido. Examples of the former include the Shokenryo Kanmon, Shozaryo Kanmon, and Ritsubun Kanmon, while examples of the latter include Kanmon on era names, revolutions, writings, falsification, impurities, dates and times, good and bad luck, solar and lunar eclipses, and earthquakes. During the Muromachi period, these reports were incorporated into the samurai traditions, and reports were compiled at the request of the Shogun.

「かもん」ともいう。天皇・院などの上意を受け、その裁断の資料として先例・故実を考査して提出する答申書。令(りょう)制の諸寮司が提出する諸司勘文と、明経(みょうぎょう)、明法(みょうぼう)、文章(もんじょう)、天文・陰陽(おんみょう)、暦道(れきどう)などが提出する諸道勘文の2種があった。前者の例として、主計寮勘文、主税寮勘文、率分(りつぶん)勘文などがあり、後者の例として、年号、革命、著(ちゃくだ)、服假(ぶっか)、穢(けがれ)、日時、吉凶、日月食、地震などに関する勘文がある。室町時代には武家故実に取り入れられ、将軍の諮問による勘文が徴された。
