Eucalyptus oil - eucalyptus oil

An essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of eucalyptus trees, which are native to Australia and belong to the Myrtaceae family. The main components vary depending on the type of eucalyptus, and are broadly divided into three types: cineole-based eucalyptus oil (containing more than 70% cineole), eucalyptus oil containing piperitone and phellandrene, and eucalyptus oil containing citronellal and geranyl acetate. It is mostly used medicinally, as an oral preparation, cough suppressant, disinfectant, and raw material for synthetic fragrances. Camphor white oil (containing cineole) is also used as artificial eucalyptus oil.

オーストラリア原産フトモモ科のユーカリノキの葉を水蒸気蒸留すると得られる精油。主要成分はユーカリの種類によって異なり、シネオール系ユーカリ油（シネオールを70％以上含む）、ピペリトン・フェランドレン含有ユーカリ油、シトロネラール・酢酸ゲラニル含有ユーカリ油の3種に大別される。用途は薬用が多く、口腔(こうくう)剤、咳(せき)止め、消毒剤および合成香料原料となる。また、樟脳白油(しょうのうはくゆ)（シネオール含有）は人造ユーカリ油として使用されている。
