Siam Also called the Gulf of Siam. A deep gulf that runs from the South China Sea into the Indochina Peninsula. The mouth of the gulf is between Pattani Cape in the middle of the Malay Peninsula and Ca Mau Cape at the southern tip of Vietnam. It is 730 km long and 500-560 km wide. The average depth is shallow at 46 m. ​​There is a threshold at the mouth of the gulf, and it is connected to the deep sea basin of the South China Sea by a narrow channel. Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is located in the Chao Phraya River delta at the inner part of the gulf, and Pattani and Nakhon Si Thammarat, two long-established commercial ports, are located at the mouth of the gulf on the coast of the Malay Peninsula. Fishing is thriving around the gulf. Natural gas has been developed since the 1970s with assistance from the United States and other countries.
