...JR Shikoku's commercial line (called the Takatoku Main Line during the JNR era) runs 74.8 km from Takamatsu Station, the gateway to Shikoku, along the Seto Inland Sea to Tokushima Station. In 1925, the Takamatsu-Shido section was opened first, and was gradually extended. In 1933, the Itanishi (now Itano)-Ikeya-Yoshinari section was acquired from the Awa Railway, and with improvements to this section and the opening of the Hiketa-Itanishi and Yoshinari-Sako sections, the Takamatsu-Sako section was completed in 1935.
