The tea ceremony practiced by feudal lords in the Edo period. During the Momoyama period, tea ceremony was supported by a wide range of people, including feudal lords, nobles, townspeople, and monks, but as the social classes became more distinct in the Edo period, the nature of the tea ceremony began to show subtle differences depending on the class of the person who carried it out. The phrase "tea of a feudal lord's influence" appears in "The Sixteen Articles of Tea Ceremony by Zen Master Seigan," which is an awareness of the type of tea practiced by feudal lords as opposed to tea practiced by townspeople. The term "feudal lord tea" refers to the tea style of feudal lord tea masters such as Furuta Oribe, Kobori Enshu, and Katagiri Sekishu, who are said to have been tea ceremony instructors to successive Tokugawa shoguns, but Oribe's character is similar to that of a kabuki actor, and he is different from feudal lord tea.
