Taininsetsu (English spelling) waiting theory

A theory of interest advocated by A. Marshall. According to Marshall, the interest rate, which is the price of capital services, a production factor, is also determined by demand and supply. Demand is determined by the marginal productivity of capital, and the greatest condition that determines supply is the wait-and-see that accompanies savings. A consumer who plans the allocation of a good between its present and future uses, as in the case of the allocation of the good between its various present uses, does so so that the marginal utility from each use is equal. However, consumers usually prefer current consumption over the same amount of future consumption.

A.マーシャルによって主張された利子論。マーシャルによれば，生産要素たる資本サービスの価格としての利子率も，需要と供給によって決定される。需要を左右するのは資本の限界生産力であり，供給を左右する最大の条件は貯蓄にともなう待忍である。ある財の現在用途と将来用途との間への配分を計画する消費者は，その財の種々の現在用途の間への配分の場合と同じく，それぞれの用途からの限界効用が等しくなるよう配分を行う。しかし消費者は，通常，現在の消費を，将来の同量の消費よりも選好する。
