Perets Davidovich Markish
1895‐1952
Soviet Jewish poet, author, and playwright. He began working at the age of eight, and after self-study, studied at Shanyavsky People's University. He began writing in 1917, publishing several collections of poems in Yiddish. His most famous work, The Heap (1922), is a moving collection of poems dedicated to the persecution of the Jews. In 1921, he traveled abroad, visiting Warsaw, Berlin, Paris, and London, and published the collection of poems Radio (1922), in which he criticized the capitalist world and praised the Soviet system. After returning to Russia, he wrote the epic poem Brothers (1929), which depicts the civil war after the Russian Revolution, and Sunrise on the Dnieper (1937), which sings of the construction of socialism and the transformation of humanity.

ソ連邦のユダヤ系詩人,作家,劇作家。8歳から働き始め,独学ののちシャニャフスキー人民大学で学んだ。1917年から文筆活動を始め,イディッシュ語で数冊の詩集を刊行した。とくに《堆積》(1922)はユダヤ人迫害にささげられた感動的な詩集として有名。21年に外国へ出かけ,ワルシャワ,ベルリン,パリ,ロンドンを旅行し,詩集《ラジオ》(1922)を発表,資本主義世界を批判して,ソビエト体制を賞賛した。帰国後,叙事詩《兄弟》(1929)でロシア革命後の国内戦を描き,《ドニエプルの朝焼け》(1937)では社会主義建設と人間の改造を歌った。
