Heading up - Taito

Japanese: 擡頭 - たいとう
Heading up - Taito
This is a style of writing used to show respect for words related to the titles or actions of noble people in a text. It starts a new line with a respectful word and starts the line one or two characters higher than the other lines. In addition to the "kan-atsu" style, there are other styles such as "ketsuji," which leaves one or a number of characters above the word, and "heishuyutsu," which starts a new line if the word appears in the middle of a line and places the word at the top of the line. "Ketsuji" and "heishuyutsu" were also stipulated in the official decrees that regulated the format of official documents in the Ritsuryo state, and were used in public and private documents and records throughout ancient, medieval, and early modern times.
