Year of death: 17th December 1670 (7th February 1670) Year of birth: Genna 8 (1622) A local lord who promoted the development of new fields in Musashino in the early Edo period. His given name was Yasuji. He was from Kishimura, Tamagun, Musashi Province (Musashimurayama City, Tokyo). He applied to the shogunate in 1656, and the following year began development in Musashino, about 10km southeast of Kishimura. He created a village-like settlement along the Ome Highway at the junction of the Tamagawa Aqueduct and the Nobidome Irrigation Canal, and developed a strip of new fields behind it, which he named Ogawa Shinden (Kodaira City, Tokyo). The new fields became a relay point for horses transporting white clay (lime) from Ome to Edo, and also paid for the horse-drawn carriages. His descendants held the position of headman of the village until the end of the Edo period. <References> "Ogawa Family Documents" (held at Kodaira City Library), "Kodaira Town History," Kimura So and Ito Koichi's "Shinden Village" (Negishi Shigeo) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
