...Given the same amount of precipitation in a drainage basin, glacial erosion is stronger than fluvial erosion, so glacial valleys are carved into deep, wide, U-shaped valleys. After the glacier disappears, the rounded rock surface of the roche moutonné, which resembles a sheep's back or a flock, is exposed at the bottom of the glacial valley. In the shield lands of Fennoscandia and Laurentia, which were covered by ice sheets during the Pleistocene glacial period, low-relief surfaces of the bedrock polished under the ice sheets, that is, glacial peneplains, are widespread.
