Anhydrite (anhydrite)

Japanese: 硬セッコウ(硬石膏) - こうせっこう（英語表記）anhydrite

Its chemical composition is _CaSO4 , and it is a mineral equivalent to the anhydrous form of gypsum. It is named after it because it is harder than gypsum. It has an orthorhombic crystal system. It can occur as plate-shaped or columnar crystals, but is usually found in chunks, granules, or fibers. It can be colorless, white, gray, or pale blue. The luster varies depending on the surface. Its Mohs hardness is 3 to 3.5, and its specific gravity is 3.0. It becomes gypsum when it absorbs water. It is a component mineral of evaporites, mainly consisting of rock salt and potassium halite, and is the first to precipitate when salt lakes dry up, and it often coexists with gypsum.

化学成分はCaSO₄でセッコウの無水物に相当する鉱物。セッコウより硬いのでこの名前がついた。斜方晶系。板状や柱状の結晶として産出することもあるが，ふつうは塊状，粒状，繊維状などをなして産出する。無色，白色，灰色，淡青色など。光沢は面によって異なる。モース硬度3～3.5，比重3.0。水を吸うとセッコウになる。岩塩，カリ岩塩などを主とする蒸発岩の構成鉱物で，塩湖が干上がる時に最初に析出沈殿したもので，セッコウと共生することが多い。
