Omagari - Oomagari

Japanese:
Omagari - Oomagari

The former name of a city located in the central part of Akita Prefecture. It currently occupies the central-southern part of Daisen City, and is located in the northern part of the Yokote Basin. The former Omagari City was established in 1954 (Showa 29) when Omagari Town and the five villages of Hanadate, Okawanishine, Uchiotomo, Yotsuya, and Fujiki merged. In 1955, Kakumagawa Town was incorporated. In 2005 (Heisei 17), the six towns of Kamioka, Nishisenboku, Nakasen, Kyowa, Senboku, and Ota, as well as Nangai Village, merged to form Daisen City. The name Omagari is taken from the name of a medieval village. The JR Ou Main Line and National Route 13 run north and south through the center of the region, and it is also the starting point of the Tazawako Line, and National Route 105 also passes through the area. In 1997, the Akita Shinkansen Line, using the Tazawako Line and the Ou Main Line, was opened, and in 1991 the Akita Expressway was opened and the Omagari Interchange was established. During the Edo period, the area was under the control of the Satake clan and was located along the Ushu Kaido road. The head inn was located in Omagari, the center of the area, and a station was also established in Takazeki Shimogo. It is the confluence of the Omono River and the Tama River, and until the Ou Main Line was opened, the Kakumagawa River was a key port for shipping and prospered as a place for shipping rice from the Senboku region. It is one of the prefecture's leading rice-producing areas and is also the commercial center of Senboku. The main hall of Koshio Shrine was built by Hida craftsmen in 1570 (Genki 1) and is designated as an Important Cultural Property by the national government. In August, the shrine holds a national fireworks festival.
