Asama Sanshuku

...It is believed that in ancient times, this area was the location of Nagakura Station, Nagakura Maki, and Nagakura Shrine, as described in the Engishiki. The Daihannya Sutra at the local Suwa Shrine includes the 1169 (Kao 1) entry "Tsukubun Daimyojin, Nagakura-go, Saku-gun," as well as many other records such as Tsukubun Suwa Daimyojin and Oiwake Suwa Shrine, so it is known to have been a place name since ancient times. In the early modern period, it was a post station between Kutsukake and Odai on the Nakasendo road, and was called the Three Asama Post Stations along with Karuizawa and Kutsukake. It was connected to Komoro Post Station as the starting point of the Hokkoku Kaido road. ...
