Japanese: 太虚 - たいきょ
The Void - Taikyo

A modern Chinese monk. His secular surname was Lu, and his pen names were Taixu, also known as Hikke, Hishin, and Funda. He lost his father at the age of two, and entered a temple in Suzhou at the age of 16. He was then ordained under Jing'an (1851-1912), after which he studied in various places. In 1918, he founded the Kakusha Series and published his theory on the reorganization of the Buddhist order, and thereafter devoted himself to the reform movement. He established Buddhist schools in various places to train personnel, and opened the World Buddhist Academy and the Han Tibetan Teaching Institute to promote Buddhist studies. When the Second Sino-Japanese War broke out, he worked to raise anti-Japanese sentiment, and dedicated his life to reforming the Buddhist world. After his death, his disciples compiled and published the "Complete Works of Master Taikyo" and the "Chronology of Master Taikyo."
