…However, unlike the French colonies, Christian missionary organizations were the main providers of education in the British colonies, and many students went to America through this route. It is natural that students studying abroad were influenced by American black education and movements, and while J. Aglee (1875-1927), who advocated cooperation between blacks and whites and was the only African member of the Phelps-Stokes Committee, is representative of many of the students, there are also K. Nkrumah, who became a leader in the independence movement and was strongly influenced by MM Garvey to advocate Pan-Africanism, and N. Azikiwe of Nigeria. After independence for Africa was put on the agenda, higher education institutions were established in each country, but ties with the former colonial powers remain close, and the structure of superiority and inferiority has not changed. …

…もっともフランス領の場合と違って，イギリス領ではキリスト教伝道団体が教育のおもな担い手であったから，そのルートでアメリカへ留学する者が少なくなかった。留学生にとってアメリカの黒人教育と運動の影響をまぬかれないのは当然であるが，黒人と白人の協調を唱導しフェルプス･ストークス委員会の唯一のアフリカ人メンバーであったJ.アグリー(1875‐1927)が多くの留学生の代表であるとすれば，他方には独立運動の指導者となり，M.M.ガービーの影響を強く受けてパン･アフリカニズムを唱えたK.エンクルマや，ナイジェリアのN.アジキウェらがいる。　アフリカの独立が日程にのぼって以後，各国に高等教育機関がつくられたが，旧宗主国との関係は今もって緊密であり，優劣の構造は変わっていない。…
